Kyrgyzstan Daily Report

In preparation for a Young Designers Felt Competition, Sietze Kalkwijk made a trip to Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country of incredible natural beauty and proud nomadic traditions. The aim was to visit the country's leading felt workshops while exploring the traditional nomadic methods of felt making.

The first productive day in Kyrgyzstan. Scheduled for today: an appointment with Mrs. Chinara Makashova, manager of production factory “Kiyal” and Tumar Art Group. The company is located in an old state owned building with hundreds of little workshops. The hallways are dark, cold and dirty but the crafts-studio's are colourfull with pleassant atmosphere.
